Wales has long been a Labour fiefdom. Keir Hardie was first elected in 1900 in Merthyr Tydfil as Independent Labour and with three others became the party’s first official MPs in 1908. Many Valleys constituencies, such as Caerphilly, have an unbroken record of Labour winning at Westminster elections. As someone with family in this part of Wales, it became ingrained that these were Labour areas (for example, I know many people didn’t actually want the Senedd but voted for it…
Normally when a former Chancellor defects that’s pretty seismic but not in the case of Nadhim Zahawi. Nothing summed up the descent under Boris Johnson than his appointment of Nadhim Zahawi, a man whose tax affairs ultimately led to his resignation. I agree with Luke Tryl’s analysis. The kindest thing I can say about this defection is that it has improved the average ethical standards and economic competence of both the Tory and Reform parties. TSE
Matthaeus Loder – The Card Layer – Germanisches Nationalmuseum, Nuremberg 2025’s competition proved to be a very tough year to predict, or perhaps a tough set of questions to predict against. But look on the bright side, everybody scored some points. And we do have a clear winner! Congratulations to @Driver for beating the cream of PB punditry with a top score of 170 points, 40 points clear of the nearest challenger. The top entries were: A few other thoughts…

Karl Turner, the former shadow solicitor general, said he was “ashamed” of the prime minister and David Lammy, the…
Back in September when Zarah Sultana launched a website for Your Party members I cautioned about signing up because it looked a real mess so this news comes as no surprise to me, The New Statesman notes Zarah Sultana’s unauthorised launch of a Your Party membership portal should be referred to the police, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has advised. Jeremy Corbyn’s Peace and Justice Project (PJP), which referred Your Party to the information watchdog last September over a potential data…
As a proud Northerner I take these things seriously. Clearly Brummies are Southerners. TSE
There’s a lot of information to process from this polling from this but the things that stand out for me is that more voters don’t want Reform to form the next government than any other party. This fits my expectation that Reform will see a lot of tactical voting against them however nearly as many do not want Labour want to form the government after the next election. The next election is shaping up to be one giant unpopularity contest….
