As the FT index drops below 5,000….

A re-run of a Marf cartoon from 2008 With the markets going through some turmoil and the FT index dropping sharply I thought it might be a good idea to re-run this Marf cartoon. It first appeared on PB in late 2008 and featured in her exhibition earlier in the year in the City of London where it received critical acclaim. It was very much influenced by Edvard Munch’s famous painting, “The Scream”. More of Marf’s work can be found…

The Met Police race: Henry G Manson marks your card

It’s Got to be Godwin There are four applicants for the Met Commissioner’s job and the Home Office has indicated it wants to process completed in a matter of weeks. Now is the time to make an assessment of their chances prior to a wager with either Stan James, Paddy Power, Ladbrokes, William Hill or Victor Chandler. Riots push crime up in the August MORI issues index

Riots push crime up in the August MORI issues index

Economist But concerns are still way below the 2007 high The August Ipsos-MORI issues index is out in the Economist and not unexpectedly last week’s rioting has pushed crime/law and order/violence right up as one of the issues that most concern those sampled. The Crown Prosecution Service, which has been studying the file to decide whether to prosecute, has asked Essex Police to make further inquiries into the claims that the Lib Dem cabinet minister tried to evade punishment for a speeding offence in 2003. It’s alleged that he asked his estranged wife to take penalty…

Has Giuliani still got the fire in his belly?

Has Giuliani still got the fire in his belly?

CDN Could Rudy be tempted to throw his hat into the ring? Overnight I’ve placed a fair bit of money on Rudy Giuliani for the Republican nomination at prices greater than 40/1 after watching a TV interview that he gave over the weekend. At this stage before the 2008 race Giuliani was the hot favourite for the GOP slot. It was his crazy strategy of avoiding the first round of primaries so he could throw everything into “Super Tuesday” that…
