The bickering, the pettiness, the game-playing, the dirt thrown – much of which sticks to some extent, including to the hands throwing it – the actual policies proposed or implemented, the negative characteristics…

ComRes/Mail EU referendum poll finds CON voters more inclined to vote to stay than the electorate as a whole

ComRes/Mail EU referendum poll finds CON voters more inclined to vote to stay than the electorate as a whole

With the coming EU referendum dominating much of the discussion at the CON conference in Manchester ComRes has new poll for the Mail out showing some quite remarkable findings. As can be seen from the chart CON voters are more inclined to say they want to stay in the EU than the electorate as a whole. This is the first time I can recall such a split and we need further surveys to support it before drawing too many conclusions….

Story here. http://t.co/sAgLU56koi pic.twitter.com/qHDLAexzJK — TSE (@TSEofPB) September 16, 2015 One of the underlying assumptions in the EU referendum was Labour and the Trade Union movement would be campaigning vigorously for the United Kingdom to remain a member however with the election of Jeremy Corbyn as Labour Leader that assumption needs to be revised. This morning’s Guardian reports “The prospects of Labour opposing British membership of the European Union,…

Reports say the EU referendum could be held as early as next April

.@BBCAllegra hs learned govt considering holding EU ref as early as April 2016 to exploit weakness of Corbyn-led Labour Party #newsnight — Ian Katz (@iankatz1000) September 1, 2015 On the day Cameron accepted the electoral commission suggestion to change the wording of the EU referendum question, and UKIP turned the OUT movement into a modern day equivalent of the People’s Front for Judea versus the Judean People’s Front, this is probably the most interesting news of the day. It may…

If there is a Corbyn victory then it might make referendum NO bets look quite tempting

If there is a Corbyn victory then it might make referendum NO bets look quite tempting

I’ve been trying to look at other political betting markets which might be affected if Corbyn does, as the YouGov numbers suggest, take the crown in the LAB leadership contest. A key one over an election that might well be taking place in the next twelve months, is the referendum on whether the UK should remain within the EU. Corbyn’s position is equivocal as seen in this recent report. It is not inconceivable that he could be on the leave…
