Can Rick Perry win by invoking the Almighty?

Can Rick Perry win by invoking the Almighty?

Is mixing church and state going too far?

The big event this weekend the 2012 White House race has been a massive prayer event at a stadium in Houston attended by thousands of people.

A key participant was the Texas governor and the man said to be just about to declare his candidature, Rick Perry. It seems that the whole event was devised as part of the build-up before his announcement.

His detractors say that he’s going too far in mixing church and state. Maybe.

In a prayer that he led Perry said: “..”Father, our heart breaks for America. We see discord at home, we see fear in the marketplace, we see anger in the halls of government. And as a nation, we have forgotten who made us, who protects us, who blesses us.And for that we cry out for your forgiveness..”

That seems to be a mixing a communication with the Almighty and a campaigning speech. It looks so blatant but then I’m not a Texan

From a British perspective it often hard to comprehend how religious a country the US is. I can’t work out what the impact of this is going to be though it’s clear that he’s going to be scrapping hard with Michelle Bachmann for the Tea Party element in the primaries.

The best you can get against Perry to win the nomination is 5/2.
