Is Labour’s return next time almost a foregone conclusion?

Is Labour’s return next time almost a foregone conclusion?

Guardian What do we think of Polly’s election prediction? Although the next general election might not take place until May 2015 there’s what amounts to a big prediction by Guardian columnist, Polly Toynbee, in the paper this morning. Talking about a “red carpet of opportunity” awaiting Labour she declares that “Cameron will be doomed by his cuts and Clegg by his betrayal.” In fact Polly is so confident is about what’s going to happen that she’s now referring to “Labour…

Is it time for Mandelson to retire with dignity?

Is it time for Mandelson to retire with dignity?

Does him being around make EdM’s challenge that more difficult? Several papers, including the Mail on Sunday and the Sunday Telegraph, this morning carry reports of an interview for the Total Politics magazine with Peter Mandelson during which he reveals that Labour’s new leader told him to “retire with dignity” – a term he interpreted as “being packed off to the old folk’s home“. In it Mandy pledges to be loyal to Ed Miliband, saying he did not want to…

Will bribes of free chocolate attract by-election volunteers?

Will bribes of free chocolate attract by-election volunteers?

Is Labour having problems getting phone canvassers for Old & Sad? While surfing this afternoon while trying to find what the main parties are doing in Old & Sad I came across the above on an official Labour site – an appeal to recruit volunteer telephone canvassers in order to get the message out. What struck me as odd was the illustration, a basket of assorted chocolate bars, and the secondary headline – “… we’re giving campaign callers free chocolate”….

Has Tom Harris fallen victim to EdM’s new assertiveness?

Was it this ad that led to Tom stopping his blog? Just over two weeks ago I published the above spoof ad under the headline “Is discipline breaking down within Labour?” and posing the secondary question as to whether its creator, blogging Labour MP, Tom Harris, might be in trouble. Well EdM is about to return to work and what did we see on Tom’s site last night but an announcement that he’s giving up because in his words “blogging…

Do Labour MPs think this campaigning was legitimate?

Do Labour MPs think this campaigning was legitimate?

Do they need to put a lid on their fury – and quick? I’m travelling at the moment and have only just caught up with the reports of what happened at last night’s meeting of Labour MPs. According to the BBC’s John Pienaar the comments by Harriet Harman about Woolas have provoked what Labour MPs and ex-ministers call a “mutiny” against the Labour leadership at Westminster. You have to ask are they crazy? For their defence of Woolas can only…
