New addition to the PB team

New addition to the PB team

Welcome to Henry G Manson I am pleased to report that Henry G has accepted an invitation join the PB team and will from this weekend have a regular slot. Henry is a long-standing Labour activist in the North East who has been sharing his insights on the site for several years. It was his posts last August that prompted a lot of PBers to get on Ed Miliband for the Labour leadership when could decent price were available. He’s…

Marf’s exhibition opens today

Marf’s exhibition opens today

PB’s occasional cartoonist, Marf, has an exhibition opening at the Guildhall Gallery in the City of London today. Amongst the works included are many that first appeared on this site. As has already been announced there will be a special gathering on Monday April 18th from 4pm at the gallery. That’s the day of the next PB party at the Dirty Dicks public house opposite Liverpool Street station. I’m travelling today and am not following the news or the threads….

A Marf exhibition and a PB gathering

A Marf exhibition and a PB gathering

Monday April 18th- the City of London There’s to be another PB gathering at the Dirty Dicks pub across the road from Liverpool Street Station. It’ll take place on Monday April 18 starting from about 6pm. Like the previous events an area of the pub will be solely for PBers. On that day as well there’ll be another gathering a couple of hours earlier at the Guildhall gallery not so far away. There, from April 1st there’s a special exhibition…

What’s going to be George’s big surprise?

What’s going to be George’s big surprise?

Are there any good budget bets? Firstly thanks to Marf for her budget day cartoon. The reason that we’ve not seen much of her work on the site recently is that all her energies have been focussed on a special exhibition that opens in April in London – more details on that later. On the budget itself the level of briefing and leaks that we’ve seen is reminiscent of Gordon Brown’s days at the treasury when lots of information and…

Site notices on private wagers, commenting and this week

Site notices on private wagers, commenting and this week

Be careful before entering into private wagers There have been one or two instances recently of site regulars entering into private wagers with other posters on PB threads and then being unable to receive payment once the outcome is known. Can I suggest that you do not enter into such an arrangement unless all the parties are prepared to exchange, obviously off thread, their real names and personal contact details. In one recent case all a poster was able to…

Dave/Ed/Nick – who’ll be out first?

Dave/Ed/Nick – who’ll be out first?

Are any of these bets tempting? William Hills have revived a market that proved popular, and for me profitable, in the run-up to the general election – which leader will be the first to leave his job. The pricing is Cameron 9/4, Miliband 7/4, and Clegg 5/4. Interestingly Clegg was the 5/4 favourite in December 2007 when Hills last put this market up – Brown was at 9/4. Clearly with the polls as they are Clegg is the favourite though…

Will Labour let a defeated Brown carry on?

Will Labour let a defeated Brown carry on?

BBC What this going to do to the leadership betting? A couple of month ago I started ploughing money on the post-December 31 2010 option in the Brown exit date betting after the PM had made comments similar to his interview on Woman’s Hour this morning. Even if he’s defeated and Cameron has a majority it’s seems clear to me that he is not going to give up the job he strove after for so long. So what’s this going…
