Should stress that these are the contemporaneous diary notes of Patrick Vallance, not direct quotes from Johnson, but the then CSA had no political axe to grind. If true, it is extraordinary that the Tory party would talk about its core voting demographic in this way

Given the Tory voting demographic (and indeed Tory members) I am sure these comments would have utterly cratered the Tory vote share to below Truss levels if Boris Johnson was still Prime Minister. Short of reversing Brexit not sure there is a worse way to micturate off Tory voters.
