358 delegates at stake tonight in the GOP race
Tonight’s a massive one in the fight for the Republican nomination. There are five big primaries with a total of 358 delegates at stake. To put that into context Trump currently leads Cruz by 460 to 370 and 1237 are required for victory.
The states are:-
Florida (99 delegates)
North Carolina (72)
What makes this particularly interesting is that from today states can operate on a winner-takes-all basis of delegates and that in Ohio and Florida Kasich and Rubio are contesting their own states. These two really need victories to stay in the race and it is hard to see them doing so if they fail. Based on the polling Kasich is in a much better position in Ohio than Rubio is in Florida.
The Republican nomination
In the Democratic race, where delegates are allocated on a more proportional basis Hillary Clinton has reasonably clear leads in Florida, Illinois and North Carolina. Sanders might do well in Ohio and Missouri.
