Some will they stay or will they go in 2018 markets

Some will they stay or will they go in 2018 markets

I like these type of markets where you can bet on whether or not X will be in their current job on a certain date. William Hill are offering such markets on Theresa May, Boris Johnson, Jeremy Hunt, and John Bercow. Because of Brexit and Mrs May’s plans for our customs arrangement with the EU which could see her toppled by the ERG wing of the party makes me loathe to back any options for May, Johnson, and Hunt staying…

Nuneaton & Bedworth, results of seats up: Con: 11 (+9)Lab: 6 (-8)Grn: 0 (-1) Chgs. w/ 2014 — Britain Elects (@BritainElects) May 3, 2018 Senior tories expecting Labour to take Trafford – would be a big win for them, taking prosperous NW Tory area – currently only Tory council in NW — Laura Kuenssberg (@bbclaurak) May 3, 2018 FWIW: I'm refusing to buy Labour's current line that Wandsworth is totally out of reach. What's clear, though, is that they were…

Leave till last. Identifying the next Conservative leader

Leave till last. Identifying the next Conservative leader

Considering how fondly it is remembered as a children’s book, The Hobbit has a lot of gore in it.  (The alert will already have figured out that I’m going to be talking about Conservative leadership manoeuvrings.)  Bilbo Baggins is threatened with imminent devourment on five separate occasions, which would make even the most gung-ho adventurer feel put out.  On the first of these occasions, he has been captured by trolls.  They quiz him about whether there are others…

It is clear someone is leaking to damage Amber Rudd and I think she’s toast

BREAKING: Amber Rudd letter to PM reveals 'ambitious but deliverable' removals target https://t.co/pCV3WHqHsd — The Guardian (@guardian) April 29, 2018 Mrs May’s firewall looks like toast after this Guardian revelation In the past few days it is obvious that someone is leaking relentlessly against Amber Rudd to force her out. It might be the fact that I tipped Amber Rudd as next out of the cabinet at 33/1 is colouring my view but I’m not sure she’s going to recover…

If you fancy a 2% return in a little over 8 months this is the bet for you

If you fancy a 2% return in a little over 8 months this is the bet for you

William Hill have a market on whether there will be a second EU in/out referendum before the 1st of January 2019, I’m backing the No side. Logistically I just cannot see a referendum happening this year. It would require legislation to be passed by both parts of Parliament, given the number of Leavers in both places, and Mrs May’s lack of majority in both Houses such a bill is likely to get bogged down in Parliamentary trench warfare. I suspect…

Looking ahead to the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize winner

I suppose it's good that they are getting rid of the nukes and all that, but it's not much good for this year's Nobel Peace Prize betting market. pic.twitter.com/o9Ahh6UQoF — Ladbrokes Politics (@LadPolitics) April 27, 2018 Why I think the Nobel Committee will blow an ill wind for Trump Following this week’s events on the Korean peninsula you can see why Kim and Moon are the favourites to win the award. I’m going to avoid this market from Ladbrokes as…

Fake news and how to deal with it

Fake news and how to deal with it

Russian propaganda—whether on chemical weapons in Syria, the nerve-agent attack in the UK, or the downing of the Malaysian Air flight over Ukraine—rarely attempts to explain the evidence but only to obfuscate it. But that’s what the guilty do. https://t.co/F3zwckGjVa — Kenneth Roth (@KenRoth) April 23, 2018 Revealed: John Bolton Chaired anti-Muslim Think Tank That Spread Fake News With Help of Russian Trollshttps://t.co/jiHNLNm3mW — Haaretz.com (@haaretzcom) April 23, 2018 DNA is perplexingly long.
