Is Liz Truss still a republican?

Is Liz Truss still a republican?

Video: Footage of Liz Truss rightly denouncing the monarchy. Will Liz Truss damage the monarchy the way she has damaged the Tory Party? This weekend The Times reported that Truss may ask King Charles III to approve delay of Boris Johnson’s peerages Boris Johnson has nominated up to eight Conservative MPs for peerages in his resignation honours list, prompting frantic efforts by Liz Truss to avoid a series of damaging by-election defeats. The former prime minister is understood to have…

Grant Shapps as our next Prime Minister?

Grant Shapps as our next Prime Minister?

‘Never trust anybody who spells gonorrhoea correctly on the first attempt’ is a maxim that has served me well in life, I am updating that maxim to ‘never trust anybody who believes in the economic policies of Liz Truss.’ I am convinced an overwhelming number of Tory MPs agree with my updated maxim. In today’s Sunday Times it is reported Grant Shapps is crunching the numbers on the plot to oust Truss but the story contained this little nugget. Behind…

Truss isn’t working

Truss isn’t working

The special fiscal operation might be the greatest self inflicted wound since Emperor Palpatine allowed the Rebel Alliance to know the location of the second Death Star. From this YouGov poll Labour’s lead is fuelled by voters switching directly from the Conservatives, with 17 per cent of those who backed Boris Johnson in 2019 saying they would vote Labour. Just 37 per cent of 2019 Conservative voters said they were planning to stick with the party, suggesting a Tory wipeout if an…

The reality for lower income people vs people earning £155k and over

The reality for lower income people vs people earning £155k and over

The 2022 Special Fiscal Operation delivered by Kwasi Kwarteng might be the most politically tone deaf budget in my lifetime if not longer. As well as being bad economically (just look at the increase on the cost of government borrowing) it writes Labour’s attack lines. In a cost of living crisis giving people earning over £155,000 per year tax cuts is really bad optics, and this budget is only likely to see growth in the Swiss and Italian economies. TSE

Starmer: The heir to Miliband?

Starmer: The heir to Miliband?

That chart that Ben Page has in his tweet is quite striking. In the last 42 years only two leaders of the opposition have led their parties their parties into government, unsurprisingly those two leaders are the top of these ratings. Sir Keir Starmer is more middling with his ratings indistinguishable from those who didn’t lead their parties into government, but does it matter? In one major respect it doesn’t, so long as Starmer’s ratings are better than the Prime…

If young voters actually voted then be afraid

If young voters actually voted then be afraid

If younger voters voted with the same propensity of their elders then elections and this country would be very different as the below chart from the British Election Study shows. I feel sorry for younger voters, in the south particularly, becoming a homeowner feel as realistic as winning the lottery, their taxes seem to pay for a selfish groups of parasitic pensioners, the client vote of the Tory party to get all the goodies in life whilst denying younger voters…

Starmer is in tune with the public

Starmer is in tune with the public

Last month I predicted and tipped that Liz Truss would follow Sir Keir Starmer’s plans to deal with the energy crisis and that has turned out to be accurate. Whilst the policy announced by Liz Truss is popular a majority of the public, including a plurality of Tory and Leave voters, say the policy is too little. I think this stems from the inaction by the Tory government over the last few months. This leads me to the conclusion the…
