TV ratings: Biden’s convention speech got a bigger audience than Trump’s
Given that elections at this stage are all about metrics of one form or another we now have the TV audience figures for Trump’s speech overnight which we can compare with Biden’s and the numbers give the Democrat the edge.
This is how CNN is reporting it:
President Trump’s Thursday night convention speech making the case for his reelection was lower-rated than his challenger Joe Biden’s speech one week ago, according to overnight Nielsen ratings. About 21.6 million viewers watched coverage of Trump’s RNC address across nine cable and broadcast networks, down from 23.6 million viewers who watched Biden’s DNC address on the same nine networks. The totals may fluctuate slightly when final numbers are released later in the day, but Biden clearly edged out Trump.
Whether you can read anything into this in terms of the election outcome I do not know but one thing is for sure – if Trump at had higher ratings he would have been bragging like crazy.
We now move into what will be a bruising couple of months culminating with the election on November 3rd. Early voting in some states starts within the next few weeks.
In the betting Trump has slipped back a notch on Betfair now ((2153 BST) and is rated as a 45% chance. Biden is at 54%.
