Looking forward to the US mid-terms
Are the Republicans going to take the house?
Almost certainly the most important elections in the world in the next three month will be the US MidTerms.
This comes up every four years half way through presidential terms. At stake are all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and a third of the 100 seats in the Senate. The former have two year terms while the latter serve for six years.
There are also a large number of state elections including races for 36 state governorships.
The historical experience is that the party of the President does not do well and the elections on November 2nd look set to be a big challenge for Barack Obama.
By far the closest fight will the effort by the Democratic party to retain control of the House. The current betting has this in favour the Republicans.
Already several of PB’s US-based commenters have been reporting on the elections and from now on we’ll be running at least a thread a week.
