Will this approach win him leadership votes?
Surely he should be saying something substantive?
Listeners to Radio 5Live this morning were treated to a furious attack on Mr. David Miliband by former Lib Dem leader, Paddy Ashdown following his “dumb waiter” description of Nick Clegg. (Listen here after about 2 hours and 28 minutes)
It provoked Ashdown to reveal for the first time how the elder Miliband failed to respond on that critical Tuesday when a LAB-LD deal looked possible. If DM had acted then maybe the LDs would have been in coalition with Labour.
So what are we to make of Mili-D’s budget Tweet? It’s hardly the sort of incisive analysis you would from somebody said to be so brainy. If it had come from Prezza then fine. But from the former foreign secretary? It sort of diminishes him.
To me the best budget responses from one of the leadership five has been from Ed Balls. He’s confident with numbers, manages to be combative with a gleam in his eye, and knows how to exploit perceived weaknesses.
