Labour’s massive challenge: Support for Corbyn as “best PM” is inversely proportional to people’s likelihood to vote

Labour’s massive challenge: Support for Corbyn as “best PM” is inversely proportional to people’s likelihood to vote

There’s a new YouGov voting poll out which has the Tories extending their lead to 12%. The figures are: CON 40% LAB 28% LD 8% UKIP 13% This means that the Tories have double digit leads in four of the five polls since Theresa May became PM. Clearly she is enjoying a honeymoon bounce but, on top of that, she is facing a Labour party that appears to be at war with itself. One part of the poll that show…

Theresa May’s lucky to have avoided the scrutiny that there’d have been with a prolonged membership ballot

Theresa May’s lucky to have avoided the scrutiny that there’d have been with a prolonged membership ballot

The decision of Andrea Leadsom to pull out of the race last Monday is making May’s initial period a whole lot easier. Instead of the 8 weeks long slog of hustings meetings, probing interviews and TV debates the new PM has managed to avoid the searching questions on policy that would have made life considerably harder when entering Number 10. Just remember the commitment on the Tories in Brussels moving to a different grouping that Cameron made in the 2005…

Welcome to a new era in the Conservative party: The post-Bullingdon period

Welcome to a new era in the Conservative party: The post-Bullingdon period

May’s cabinet should give us a pointer to the direction the party will go One of my favourite quotes from the former CON leader, William Hague, is that the Tories are “an absolute monarchy, moderated by regicide”. For there’s no doubt about the level of power and influence the leader has over policy, preferment, and the whole direction of the party. Unlike Labour there is no powerful NEC to get in the way. The leader is everything as we’ve seen…
