The postal ballots go out next week

Anything upto a quarter of the votes cast in the referendum will be by post and the time-table stipulated by the Electoral Commission states that ballot packs to postal voters should start to go out on Monday. Initially those who currently live overseas will be mailed but the plan is that UK-based postal voters will start getting their ballots by the weekend.

Given that we know from past elections that most postal voters don’t hang about for long before filling them in then the first EURef votes could be being cast in just seven days.

Once you’ve voted that is it. If there was a sudden development that could impact on your choice then your hands are tied. Your choice 4 weeks early is final

This also makes polling a bit odd because for postal voters in samples their decision is a matter of history.
