With three victories out of the last five the cycling lobby has got these SPOTY elections sewn up
My tip for the 2013 SPOTY election – Chris Froome currently 7/2 2nd favourite for the next Tour de France twitter.com/MSmithsonPB/st…

If Froome wins the next TdF then he must be a good bet for SPOTY 2013
Last night in an election that attracted 1.5 million votes cyclist Bradley Wiggins became the 2013 Sporting Personality of the Year – a victory that always seemed likely even with so many strong contestants in the frame.

The reason why Wigggins got it are the same as why Mark Cavendish won last year and Sir Chris Foy in 2008 – the power and the organsation of the cycling vote. No other sport can match it.
So looking to next year then the chances are that it will be a cyclist again provided one can perform internationally during 2013.
Looking around the one most likely at the moment is the Kenyan-born Brit, Chris Froome, who was runner-up to Wiggins in the 2012 Tour de France.
The 2013 route for the three week tour looks better suited to Froome than Wiggins and the buzz is that he’ll be leading for Sky Procycling – hence his betting position as 7/2 second favourite.
If Froome wins the race then given the experience of recent years he’ll stand a good chance of taking SPOTY as well.
