Was Ladbrokes wise to pay out on Wednesday?
On Wednesday evening Ladbrokes announced that it was paying out on Bradley Wigggins bets in the BBC Sports Personality of 2012 market.
That certainly got the bookie some publicity but was it a wise? Could someone other than Wiggins now take the crown which is voted upon in mid-December.
The Belgium-born cyclist had just won gold in the Olympic time trial to add to his Tour de France victory ten days earlier and as far as punters were concerned then he was the only bet.

But have things changed following last night’s amazing developments in the Olympic stadium. Could Jessica Ennis now edge him out?
The answer, of course, is that anything is possible and so much depends on what happens in the final week of the extraordinary London games.
How will, for instance, things look if Andy Murray takes two gold medals in tennis events today? Could the Jessica Ennis victory be over-shadowed by British sporting performances still to come?
One thing that PBers have to take into account is how the voting operates and here the cycling lobby showed in December 2011 how effective it could be in mobilising support for Mark Cavendish.
On Betfair Wiggins has eased out to about 1/2. Ennis has moved in to about 100/30.
