Tory lead down to just 3 with Populus
Populus – Times | Apr 12 | Apr 7 |
---|---|---|
CONSERVATIVES | 36% | 39% |
LABOUR | 33% | 32% |
LIB DEMS | 21% | 21% |
LAB to CON swing from 2005 | 3% | 5% |
A Populus poll for tomorrow’s Times has the Tory lead over Labour cut to just 3%, which would certainly be hung parliament territory if repeated at the election and could well see Labour as the largest party.
Other figures of note in the article are that Lib Dem supporters would prefer a deal with Labour over the Tories by a margin of 44% to 31% – though that’s worth taking with a pinch of salt as the context of the number of actual seats won will matter enormously if there is a hung parliament – and that more than half those questioned said they planned to watch the first leaders’ debate this week, which would generate a viewing figure of over 20 million.
There’s a long way to go, especially with the three debates to come, but the blue corner must be getting concerned at the number of close polls coming out this last week.
