Has the Guardian made a boo-boo?
-
Is the “poll” for the whole of Scotland – not just Glasgow East?
Within the past hour above story has just gone up on the Guardian website – BUT PUNTERS HOLDER ON.
It looks as though the paper might have confused an all-Scotland Westminster voting intention poll that was published overnight with one that was done specifically on Glasgow East. There is, of course, a world of difference.
Stuart Dickson posted the all-Scotland poll here early this morning.
Where the paper seems to have gone wrong is in the headline “Blow for Labour as poll gives SNP four-point lead in Glasgow East byelection” reproduced above. The body text of the story seems OK – it is just the heading that’s wrong.
I think that the SNP press release might have confused the papers. It’s headlines read:-
POLL SHOWS SCOTS WANT JOHN MASON TO WIN GLASGOW EAST
SNP AHEAD OF LABOUR FOR FIRST TIME FOR WESTMINSTER ELECTION
SNP HAIL “BREAKTHROUGH” YOUGOV/TELEGRAPH POLL
