Poll “shows big swing away from Labour amongst students”

We have received an unconfirmed report about a new poll on the voting intentions of UK students that it is said will be published in the Times Higher Educational Supplement tomorrow.

The figures we have with changes on a simillar poll last month are LD 39 (+2) : LAB 29 (-4): CON 24 (+4) . So the Lib Dem lead over Labour has increased by 6%. It’s also interesting that the Tories are doing quite well amongst a group not noted to be abundant with party supporters.

We have no further information about the survey and as soon as we have anything more we will revise this article.

Six weeks ago the Lib Dems announced a list of 27 seats where it believes that the student vote could help it win. If this evening information is confirmed then some seats on the target list might be realisitic chances for them.

The seats where the Lib Dems say student votes can swing the election for them are
: Bristol West, Cardiff Central, Leeds North West, Cambridge, Manchester Gorton, Sheffield Central, Oxford East, Newcastle-upon-Tyne Central, Liverpool Riverside, Holborn and St Pancras, Oldham East and Saddleworth, Manchester Withington, Islington South and Finsbury, Birmingham Yardley, Surrey South West, Taunton, Orpington, Haltemprice and Howden, Eastbourne, Isle of Wight, Dorset West, Bournemouth East, Wells, Canterbury, Cities of London and Westminster, Bournemouth West, Westmorland and Lonsdale.
