Labour’s Corbynistas have yet to face the unpalatable fact that their man won GE2019 for Boris
A theme that doesn’t seem to go away on UK political social media is the attempt by many Jeremy Corbyn supporters to keep on claiming that their man actually did better than his two general election defeats would suggest.
I get it repeatedly on my Twitter feed with all sorts of machinations being made to the 2017 general election results to try to prove how close Corbyn came to becoming Prime Minister. They are happy to quote that election rather than the last one which gave the Tories their thumping majority and in which Mr. Corbyn’s party lost one fifth of its votes.
If I quote YouGov polling at them all I get is a response that the pollster is full of Tories which ignores the major role that long-standing Labour supporter, Peter Kellner, had in the development of the company.
So the poll numbers I use at the top of this post are from the Opinium survey on the day of the general election.
The main reason why Labour lost a fifth of its GE2017 vote was because of its leader. It was the Corbyn factor that caused the breach of the “red wall”.
