The Coalition loses ground in the council cuts blame game
Could this affect the locals on May 5th?
Yesterday we looked at the latest finding in the “cuts blame game” and reported that YouGov was still showing a big deficit for Labour with 40% saying the last government was to blame for the spending cuts.
There’s another tracker that YouGov has which is focussed on council spending cuts where a different picture is emerging.
The question is: “Local councils in many parts of Britain are cutting some of their services. Thinking about the area where you live, which of these statements comes closest to your view?” Central government is mainly responsible, because it is cutting sharply the money it gives to the council where I live”; “My local council is mainly responsible, because it could achieve most of the savings it needs by cutting costs, without cutting services”; Neither – I am not aware of significant cuts to services in my area”.
This week’s findings are featured in the chart above.
This is almost certainly reflects the success of councils in getting over a message that this is down to the “government”.
