What do tonight’s developments add to the story?

What do tonight’s developments add to the story?

Obviously developments in the hacking story are making the running in the newsrooms tonight and no doubt it will feature prominently both on the front pages and at the top of TV news bulletin running orders. What I can’t work out is what this does to the hacking saga apart just reinforcing people’s views. Very little surprises us any more. @MikeSmithsonPB

ComRes: 2 in 3 say News Corp shouldn’t own only ANY of BSkyB

ComRes: 2 in 3 say News Corp shouldn’t own only ANY of BSkyB

And Labour open up 6 point lead The chart I’m featuring from the new ComRes telephone poll out for tomorrow’s Independent is the one that is being highlighted by the pollster and most probably the paper itself – responses to the question “The hacking scandal shows that Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation is not “fit and proper” to own any part of BskyB” As can be seen from the chart those interviewed were very supportive of the proposition with not too…

So much has been put on the record in recent days that it’s set off a whole series of other lines of enquiry which might or might not come to something. Where’s it all going to go? Will there be political casualties? How’s the media…

Has the Guardian lost its marbles over Marbles?

Has the Guardian lost its marbles over Marbles?

Guardian Will this undermine efforts to occupy the moral high ground Just 24 hours after the attack on Ruperrt Murdoch while giving evidence to the commons committee the Guardian has given a platform to the man responsible, Jonnie Marbles He’s been given a column in which he seeks to justify why he did it. I think the Guardian’s move is dumb beyond belief – it looks as though it’s taking its campaign against News International and Murdoch just too far….

Should Dave have made his Coulson concession a lot earlier?

Should Dave have made his Coulson concession a lot earlier?

Why’s it taken so long for him to admit the mistake? For me the big element in today’s statement on the hacking scandal from David Cameron was his observation “with hindsight” that he would not have hired Andy Coulson. This comes after massive pressure over the past fortnight when he’s remained equivocal over the decision to hire the ex-NOTW editor in 2007 and then, in May 2010, to appoint him as head of communication at Number 10. Surely a lot…
