Farage’s locals strategy takes a knock as it loses more of the seats won in May

But it’s not all been negative for the purples

It might be August but it’s been a big night of by-elections with PC having an easy victory in the Ynys Mon Welsh Assembly contest and UKIP losing both the county council seats that had been gained three months.

One of the Ukip losses, in Kidderminster, was to the Tories and the other, at Thetford W in Norfolk, was to Labour. In the latter the Ukip share of the vote increased by 3% suggesting that there was tactical anti-LAB tactical voting. The CON share went down by the same amount.

These two UKIP losses follow the loss of the only other by-election from a seat won on May 2nd which was also in Worcestershire a few weeks ago.

The blues had a mixed night with their gain in Worcestershire being offset by a loss to the Liberal Democrats in the Ribble Valley. These are my Tweets of some of the results.

CON to UKP tactical voting not enough to stop LAB in Thetford

The CON gain from UKIP in Worcs

A good vote share for UKIP in Amber valley

CON to LD swing of 14.7% in Ribble Valley

Big LAB to PC swing in Ynys MON: Goodish for UKIP
