After last night Ukip has now made more net gains in local by-elections in 2013 than Labour

The purple bandwagon keeps on rolling

In his summary of 2013 Q1 local council by elections earlier in the week PB local government expert, Harry Hayfield recorded that Ukip and Labour both had made two net gains.

That has changed overnight with Ukip chalking up another victory in a previously CON-held seat taking their total, in principal authorities, to three. All of these have happened since Eastleigh – in the past month.

The big test will be the main local elections on May 2nd and we should get an idea of Farage’s party’s strength when we see in how many of the seats up for grabs they are fielding candidates.
